After a long day of filming the obstacle course we decided it was time to take a break and pop out for Subway and coffee, but this time... with the robot.
Our journey started close to base, where we filmed Stev3 driving past a skip, some bushes, and the Holywood police station (hopefully not illegal). After that we headed into the centre of town so that we could film some shots of Stev3 in different stores (not Subway though, since that WAS illegal).
Our shot that got us the most attention was when we filmed the robot going over the zebra crossing. We had multiple people - including two friendly guys, who were quite obviously very interested in robots - come and talk to us. It was really nice to be able to talk about and show off the robot that we've been working so hard on for the past few months to people that don't usually see these types of things. We also saw a family with a dog, who ended up being the star in one of our shots.
After a while of filming random clips, we thought it would be a fun idea to string them together into a story.
We had gotten an earlier clip of the robot leaving Nero, and so we ran with that idea. the premise of the shots were that the robot was to deliver me - a human* - a cup of coffee, and whilst doing so it'd have a little adventure around Holywood. I think that it turned out very cute in the end, and it was a nice way to get outside and do something creative and technical, while showing off the strengths of our robot. And if you're lucky enough to be a judge, you'll get to see the result!
