Aw bless, our wee James is growing up.
Our very own James "The Hatchett" Matchett - long time NI Raspberry Jam volunteer, FLL mentor and Pi Wars organiser, has just won NI Apprentice of the Year!
The competition is Northern Ireland wide, and anyone who is an apprentice (who both works and studies at the same time) is eligible to be entered. The award seeks to recognise apprentices who are exceptional in their role and go the extra mile in whatever they do.
James was nominated by his manager at Kainos: "I was so excited to hear that my manager had chosen to nominate me for the Higher Level Apprentice of the Year entry."
James helps out with a lot of volunteering, where he teaches kids how to do robotics, programming and electronics as well as the odd bit of hacking on the side. He forged his own career in cyber security by picking up skills and teaching himself in his spare time.
"I really hope that this award will allow me to continue going out to the community to help teach & promote technology skills and the benefits that apprenticeship schemes can bring!"
