Due to the no-no virus currently sweeping the world (in a bad way, like oasis) the Pi Wars competition has gone virtual!
This has lead to a switch up to the rules, including making the courses ourself, and for the obstacle course challenge, entirely designed by ourselves as well!
The most significant rule change is, of course, the fact no one can see you cheat with a controller just out of frame and call it autonomous. We're not going to do that because we're honest and trustworthy but just warning the judges to watch out for that from some of those other guys
The second most significant change is that the robot does not have to do these challenges consistently, as it only has to be recorded once, meaning we can film it a thousand times it only has to be successful once.
This, combined with everyone having all the time in the world locked in their houses, means that this year will have the most impressive runs to compete against, as it doesn’t matter if the robot blows up after one successful attempt.
This is especially important for the Feed the Fish challenge, and gives those who are attempting to shoot into the top portion a much bigger advantage. Going for the bottom is much safer, but this is irrelevant when you can repeat the run 20 times and it only matters if you get it once.
These switched up rules heavily favour those who want to take risks, over those who just want a safe blanket of points.
